The ANICOM project is featured in an article published by Daily Science!
This research project, funded by an ERC Consolidator grant and developed within ULiège's Faculty of Social Sciences, explores forms of intuitive communication between humans and animals (Intuitive Interspecies Communication, or IIC).
Through an interdisciplinary approach combining ethology, anthropology, philosophy and cognitive sciences, ANICOM seeks to describe how IIC works. Professor Wijngaarden outlines some of the challenges of this practice: "From a very practical point of view, when an animal is suffering, or has a behavioral problem, CII can help when other techniques have failed. In fact, communicators are already working with veterinarians. More generally, CII provides access to the perspectives and knowledge that animals have of themselves, the world and humans, and thus overcomes a strictly anthropocentric vision."
The article looks at the scientific and ethical issues involved in this innovative research, and the work carried out by the ULiège team.
